DEVUP Code in Cursor

Install DEVUP Code from Open VSX to use DEVUP AI models inside Cursor. DEVUP Code's chat works on Cursor's free plan. It runs in its own panel and uses your DEVUP AI account, not Cursor's model settings.

Install

Install DEVUP Code in Cursor

Cursor installs DEVUP Code from Open VSX. There is no charge for the extension itself; each request is paid from your DEVUP balance.

  1. Open Cursor.
  2. Open the Extensions view.
  3. Search DEVUP AI.
  4. Click Install on DEVUP AI — AI code assistant.

DEVUP Code is this site's name for the extension. In the Extensions view, search "DEVUP AI". The listing reads "DEVUP AI — AI code assistant", and the panel is titled "DEVUP AI".

Account

Sign in to DEVUP AI in Cursor

  1. In the DEVUP AI panel, pick Sign in with DEVUP.
  2. Confirm with Allow access on devupai.com.
  3. Cursor completes the sign-in for you. There is no API key to copy and paste.

Remote and web windows take the other route: you paste a DEVUP API key.

Your sign-in stays in Cursor's secure storage on this device rather than in settings or files. Sign out from Account in DEVUP AI Settings, or with the DEVUP AI: Sign Out command.

Find it

Where DEVUP AI appears in Cursor

  • Cursor's activity bar gets a DEVUP AI panel of its own.
  • A DEVUP AI button sits in the editor title bar and opens the chat. Settings can hide it.
  • Ctrl+Alt+D adds the code you selected to the chat. It can also open the message box.

In practice

How it works in practice: learn a codebase and get a second opinion in Cursor

A common first session: you have just cloned a project in Cursor, you need to find out where it checks user input, and you would like a second model's view before relying on the answer.

  1. Open DEVUP AI from the activity bar. Use the + menu to attach the file in front of you, or type @ and part of a name to bring in another one.
  2. Each file you add shows up as a chip above the message box. Added the wrong one? A single click removes it.
  3. Open the model picker, type to search it or use the capability filters, choose a model, and ask where the project validates incoming data.
  4. With a reasoning model, its thinking is visible as it happens, and you can expand it again under the finished answer.
  5. For a second opinion, ask for the last reply again from a different model. Your default model does not change.
  6. Compare the answers: each names the model behind it and shows how long it took and its token count.
  7. Pin the chat in History. Pinned chats are kept even if you limit how many chats are saved.

For more on the picker, attachments and History, read chat and models and files and context in the docs.

Use cases

Ways to put DEVUP Code to work in Cursor

Answers in French or Arabic. Pick French or Arabic as the reply language, or let replies follow whatever language you type in. English is a choice too.

Long explanations, uncut. A reply that stops at its length limit can be continued in place. You can also set how long each model's replies may get, within that model's limit.

A better question on the second try. Edit a message you already sent and send it again, regenerate the latest reply, or copy an answer into your notes.

House rules the model can read. Add an AGENTS.md at the folder root, and DEVUP AI reads it along with .devupai/rules.md when that file exists. Either one can be switched off. A sample:

AGENTS.md
# Notes for AI assistants

A web API in TypeScript. Route handlers live in src/routes, shared checks in src/validation.

## Conventions

- Validate each request body before it reaches a handler.
- Return errors as JSON with a code and a message.
- Unit tests sit beside the file they cover, named *.test.ts.

## When you answer

- Show whole functions rather than fragments.
- Say which file a change belongs to before the code block.

Project instructions and the instructions docs show how these files sit alongside your personal instructions.

Tips

Tips for DEVUP AI in Cursor

  • An error message names what happened and a next step. It also carries a request ID: copy it when you write to support.
  • Sign-in questions and other common cases are answered in troubleshooting.

Editor AI

DEVUP AI and Cursor's built-in AI chat

Cursor's built-in AI chat is not replaced. DEVUP AI works from a separate panel of its own.

Options

Cursor's custom model setup

Cursor also has its own custom model setup for DEVUP AI models, with a DEVUP AI API key and a base URL in Cursor's settings, picked in Cursor's model picker. The Cursor integration guide covers that setup and what it requires.

Questions and answers

Yes. DEVUP Code's chat answers there: it has a separate panel and draws on your DEVUP AI account rather than on Cursor's model settings.

Choose Sign in with DEVUP, then confirm with Allow access on devupai.com. Cursor finishes the sign-in, so you never copy an API key.

It has its own DEVUP AI panel in the activity bar. You can also open the chat from the DEVUP AI button in the editor title bar.

No. DEVUP AI opens in a panel of its own and leaves Cursor's built-in AI chat in place.

Yes. Regenerate the last reply with another model, and your default stays as it was. Every reply shows which model wrote it, so the answers are easy to tell apart.

Not to install it. What you send is paid from your DEVUP balance, which is held in Algerian dinars.

Go to Account in DEVUP AI Settings, or run DEVUP AI: Sign Out from the Command Palette. Signing out also revokes the key Cursor was given.
